Looking through all the different 2025 MLB team record projectors that are out there on the internet they all seem the be pretty similar to each other. That being said let’s dive into my thoughts on each American League team’s projected 2025 record.
Leading off, we will start with the American League West teams which include the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, and Los Angeles Angeles. Overall this division is coming into 2025 with a lot of questions. You have the Texas Rangers who were the champions back in 2023 who kind of fell off big time last year, mostly due to injuries. The Houston Astros who have won this division 7 out of the last 8 years, however with losing quite a few key players this may haunt their dominence. The Seattle Mariners always seem to be contenders up until the very end recently. Could the Mariners be the new team to beat in the AL West? Lastly, we have the Los Angeles Angels, oh what can we say about the Angels recently? Absolutely nothing unfortunately I think I speak for most (if not all) baseball fans and let’s just hope for a full season of a healthy Mike Trout and that will deem a good year for the Angels.
Texas Rangers (86-76)
For the Rangers I feel this is a record that is right on target. They lost three players due to free agency, Matt Duffy (3B), David Robertson (RHP), and Jose Urena (RHP). However, they ended up signing some decent replacements in Nathan Eovaldi (RHP), Joe Peterson (DH), Jake Burger (1B/3B), and Robert Garcia (LHP). I feel the Rangers rebuilt what they lost due to free agency in all their player signings (We won’t list them all) and with some better health this year they will come away with the AL West title.
Houston Astros (85-77)
The projections have the Astros finishing second in the AL West this year which is definitely a change of pace for them with winning 7 or the last 8 AL West titles. It seems like the whole Astros team left this offseason except Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez. Key players they lost include: Kyle Tucker (OF), Alex Bergman (3B), Ryan Pressly (RHP), and Justin Verlander (RHP) all these players were key components in the Astros success year in and year out. However, the players they acquired to replace some of these key players I just do not think will be enough, acquired players include: Isaac Paredes (3B), Christian Walker (1B), and Hayden Wesneski (RHP). Overall, I think the projected record is a little on the higher side for wins and I have the Astros actually finishing third this year in the AL West. (Just want it noted ever since the Astros scandal I lost all respect for this organization. Call it harsh or I am just a hater, I do not care, I am out on the Astros and have been since they were beating on trash cans.)
Seattle Mariners (85-77)
Interestingly enough the projections have the Mariners having the same record as the Astros this year. The Mariners did not have any HUGE key players leave or join, however they ended up finishing second last year in the AL West so they did not have much work to do this offseason. Only player that stood out to me was Jorge Polanco (2B) resigned on a 1 year deal for the Mariners. I feel with them finishing second in 2024 and with what the Astros lost this offseason I believe the Mariners not only will possibly finish second again but giving the Rangers a run for the AL West title.
Oakland/Las Vegas Athletics (73-89)
The A’s are one of the most interesting teams in the AL West this year. They have a lot going on the next couple years, for 2025-2027 they will be playing in Sacramento for starters while their new stadium is being built in Las Vegas. This has been a very rough deal to get the A’s moved to Vegas between the city of Oakland, the owners, and the city of Las Vegas. Let’s not forget the fans (who yes, I know, didn’t necessarily show up to watch the A’s all the time) are losing a team they have had in Oakland since 1968. I feel bad for the A’s fans it’s always hard seeing a fan base disappear due to a team moving. However, this team only lost a few of pitchers in Alex Wood (LHP), Scott Alexander (LHP) and Ross Stripling (RHP), and man did they go out and make some decent moves to acquire players. The A’s went out and acquired Luis Severino (RHP), Gio Urshela (3B), Jeffrey Springs (LHP, and Luis Uriah (3B). I like what the A’s did this offseason and excited to see what happens. I feel their record is one of the hardest to predict since they will be playing in a “rented” stadium so I like where the projector put them but i could see this team overachieve and possibly contend for the AL West title at the same time.
Los Angeles Angels (70-92)
Where to even start with the Angels… Honestly I speak for baseball fans around the world in saying “Please, can we get a healthy Mike Trout for a whole season”! Mike Trout, when healthy, is probably the best player in baseball all around but injuries always seem to cut his seasons short. The Angels have made a lot of moves this offseason mostly in the acquired players such as: Jorge Soler (OF), Kyle Hendricks (RHP), Kelley Jansen (RHP), Travis d’Arnaud (C), and Tim Anderson (SS). The record projection is pretty accurate, however I do want to say with a healthy Mike Trout with these additions the Angels could be one of the more surprisingly good teams in the MLB in 2025!
In conclusion, the AL West division is a tough one to project for the 2025 season. However, give me a surprise for this year in the Seattle Mariners to take the top spot, I would put the Texas Rangers coming in second just behind the Mariners (I am going to say within a game of the Mariners), third place belongs to another surprise team in the Oakland/Las Vegas Athletics, fourth place will be the Houston Astros simply just on the fact they have lost too much this offseason, which leaves the Los Angeles Angels coming in last unfortunately but we will see a full year of health for Mike Trout!
