American League East Overview

Looking through all the different 2025 MLB team record projectors that are out there on the internet they all seem the be pretty similar to each other. That being said let’s dive into my thoughts on each American League team’s projected 2025 record.

East coast is the best coast? The American League East is probably the best division in baseball from top to bottom. The teams included are as follows: New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Rays. Like I said from top to bottom this divisions is absolutely stacked “on paper”, however will it produce like it should? World Series runner up the New York Yankees are looking to contend for another shot at the championship this season, but will they even get out of the AL East? The Yankees lost a huge part of their lineup and will they be able to get close to the production and success they had in 2024? Next up the Baltimore Orioles who finished in second in the 2024 season who boast a very young and talented team. The Orioles team is probably one of the most exciting teams in baseball and have found success but can they come out of the gauntlet of the AL East on top? We are shipping up to Boston (the city of champions called by some people) for our next team for the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox have rebuilt for the 2025 season and looking to take back their rightful place on top of the AL East. Heading down south to Tampa to check in on the Tampa Bay Rays. Interesting situation for 2025, playing in a triple A stadium for their home games due to hurricane damage. The Rays always seem to overachieve every year, their development is top notch so I would never count the Rays out for contending for the title. Lastly, get your passports ready we are going up to Canada for the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays could be the most underrated team in the AL East. However can they put it all together to go from last (2024 season) to first (2025 season)?

New York Yankees (94-68)

Defending AL East champions are back for the 2025 season. The Yankees were part of probably one of the biggest free agent signings we will see in quite awhile, Juan Soto. However, they were unsuccessful retaining the young superstar outfielder. That being said, the Yankees key players lost include: Juan Soto (OF), Gleyber Torres (2B), and Nestor Cortes (LHP). The Yankees acquired quite a few players including: Paul Goldschmidt (1B), Fernando Cruz (RHP), Max Fried (LHP), Devin Williams (RHP), and Cody Bellinger (OF). Considering what the Yankees lost in Juan Soto (and others), it actually looks like they filled the gaps nicely dare I say better? The projection of 94 wins seems right on point for this team, a lot of new shiny pieces but on paper looks like they will be AL East champions again in 2025.

Baltimore Orioles (87-75)

Switching gears to the young superstars with the Baltimore Orioles. This team is one of my favorite to watch throughout the year. Gunnar Henderson is probably the second best shortstop in the MLB (behind Bobby Whitt Jr), they have one of the best catchers (if not the best) in Adley Rutschman, and Jackson Holliday one of the most hyped position players we have seen in awhile (also former major leaguer’s son). The Orioles did lose quite a bit of names including: Corbin Burnes (RHP), Anthony Santander (OF), Eloy Jimenez (DH), and Danny Coulombe (LHP). The acquired players are close to replacing what they lost which includes: Tyler O’Neill (OF), Gary Sanchez (C), Charlie Morton (RHP), and Dylan Carlson (OF). I personally think the projection is a little off on the wins, I would like to see the Orioles above 90 for the 2025 season. I am intrigued by this team in 2025, the young stars have another year under their belt and I think this might be the year we see those players all play to their full potential and possibly lead Baltimore to contend for the AL East title.

Toronto Blue Jays (83-79)

Passports in hand and arriving in Canada. The Toronto Blue Jays are another one of the teams I keep up with throughout the season. Their 2024 season was not what they wanted and it may have gotten worse this offseason with not being able to get the extension done with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The Blue Jays have not lost Vladdy yet however the players they did lose include: Jordan Romano (RHP) and Spencer Horwitz (1B). On the acquired players side the lue Jays made some competitive moves including: Andres Gimenez (2B), Anthony Santander (OF), Jeff Hoffman (RHP), Yimi Garcia (RHP), and Max Scherzer (RHP). As far as the projected record goes, I am conflicted quite a bit. I could see this team being successful and getting to the high 80’s maybe even the 90 win mark but I also I could see them being in the mid to low 70’s. Insert the Blue Jays fan base, I would hope for the 90 win mark (obviously) mainly to be able to possibly keep Vladdy for the whole year, because I could see the Blue Jays start moving players come the trade deadline if the team is falling short to compete!

Boston Red Sox (83-79)

Shipping up to Boston for the next team to discuss in the AL East, the Boston Red Sox. I hate to sound repetitive but I also keep up with this team a little bit due to my best friend being a fan (shout out Ethan). Looking over what the Red Sox lost compared to what they gained this offseason isn’t even close. Some players the Red Sox lost include: Tyler O’Neill (OF), Kenley Jansen (RHP), Danny Jansen (C), and Nick Pivetta (RHP). Now for the good part, the players the Red Sox added (get ready for this) include: Garret Crochet (LHP), Walker Buehler (RHP), Alex Bregman (3B), Adam Ottavino (RHP), and Aroldis Chapman (LHP). Tell me the Boston Red Sox did not go and try and dominate the offseason this year? The additions mixed with the players already there with one of the best managers in the league in Alex Cora I think this wins total is WAY low at 83, I am taking the over and going 90 maybe even 95 range. The Red Sox are back and are coming to reclaim their crown as the AL East champions!

Tampa Bay Rays (78-84)

Lastly we have the Tampa Bay Rays who are going to have an interesting year to say the least I believe. We will start with the players on the field the Rays really in my opinion did not lose any notable players. The Rays did gain some upper echelon players in my opinion including: Ha-Seong Kim (INF), Danny Jansen (C), Eloy Jimenez (DH), and Alex Faldo (RHP). Now lets get a quick update of off the field stuff for the Rays, they got approved for building a new stadium (how I have no idea because they don’t fill the stadium now but whatever) so they were going to play in their old stadium until it was complete. However, enter into the conversation a hurricane Milton that came through and tore the rough off of Tropicana Field. There was a lot of back and forth what the team was going to do, but ended up deciding they were going to rebuild the roof of Tropicana Field and put the new stadium on hold (why, makes no sense to me but I digress) and play in a triple A (Steinbrenner Field) field for the 2025 season.  Every year the Rays overachieve no matter what players they have on the field, their player development is absolutely incredible and I have no doubt they will be in contention this year.

In conclusion, this is an absolute juggernaut of a division to say the least. My projection for the AL East for the 2025 season is… I am taking the Boston Red Sox to retake their crown at the top of the AL East, with the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles coming in second, Toronto Blue Jays coming in third (technically fourth with the “tie” at second), and coming in last just due to all the stadium issues the Tampa Bay Rays. This division should be one of the more interesting and electric divisions and baseball.
