Looking through all the different 2025 MLB team record projectors that are out there on the internet they all seem the be pretty similar to each other. That being said let’s dive into my thoughts on each American League team’s projected 2025 record.
Ahh… The AL Central division is one of the more interesting divisions in all of baseball that is filled with young talent that have the potential of being MLB superstars. In this division the teams are Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Guardians, Minnesota Twins, and Chicago White Sox. Three (possibly four) out of these five teams have the potential of contending to be AL Central champions this season. First look, we have the Detroit Tigers who are coming off one of their best (if not the best) season in the last decade. The Tigers ended up having one of the best pitchers in baseball, Tarik Skubal, who went on to win the AL Cy Young Award. Up next we have the Kansas City Royals who are always a solid and exciting team year in and year out. The Royals have probably the best overall shortstop in the game in Bobby Whitt Jr, who is certainly on his way to becoming a MLB superstar (If he already hasn’t got to that status already?). We have the Cleveland Guardians who are the defending AL Central champions from 2024. They have one of the best third basemen’s in the game in Jose Ramirez and always have one of the best pitching staff in all of baseball every year. The team up north, Minnesota Twins, are always a solid and in my opinion an overachieving team every year. They always have consistent players and pitching which will always give them a chance to contend. Lastly, the Chicago White Sox, what do we even say about this team? The White Sox were the worst team in baseball last year and was the first team to get to 100 losses and I see nothing different for this year unfortunately.
Detroit Tigers (86-76)
What a turnaround the Detroit Tigers have done the past couple seasons. This year the projector has them winning the AL Central, which I agree with one hundred percent. I actually think the wins are a little low in my opinion I would like to see that number around 90 for this upcoming season. The Tigers ended up not losing anyone from last season and actually adding even more talent. Key additions for the Tigers this season include: Jack Flaherty (RHP), Alex Cobb (RHP), and Gleyber Torres (2B). I absolutely love what the Tigers have done this offseason and think they will be AL Central champions and have a deep playoff run.
Kansas City Royals (84-78)
The Kansas City Royals are going to be a interesting team in 2025. I believe they have the best all around shortstop in the game in Bobby Whitt Jr, he is definitely the next big superstar shortstops in our league and can definitely lead this team to a potential AL Central championship. The Royals lost a few key players including: Robbie Grossman (OF), Will Smith (LHP), Brady Singer (RHP), Adam Frazier (2B), Paul DeJong (INF), Yuli Gurriel (1B), and Tommy Pham (OF). However, they did acquire a few players that may not only fill the gap but may make the Royals even better this season including: Carlos Estevez (RHP), Michael Lorenzen (RHP), Joey Wiemer (OF), and Jonathan India (2B). The up the middle duo of Whitt Jr and India could be one of the best in baseball this season. Again, I feel the win total is low for the Royals this season, would like to see higher 80’s (maybe 88 or 89) for this team. I think between the Tigers and Royals it may come down to the final games this season (if not a game 163) to determine the AL Central championship!
Cleveland Guardians (82-80)
The defending 2024 AL Central champions have entered the conversation. The Guardians are always in contention to win the AL Central, however this year may be a changing of the guard where the Guardians miss out entirely in the AL Central. Key players the Guardians lost this offseason include: Alex Cobb (RHP), Andres Gimenez (2B), Matthew Boyd (LHP), and Josh Naylor (1B). The Guardians did manage to acquire some decent replacements for who they lost including: resigning Shane Bieber (RHP), Carlos Santana (1B), Luis Ortiz (RHP), and Slade Cecconi (RHP). What worries me the most about the Guardians is they had one of (if not the best) overall pitching staffs in all of MLB baseball last year. Losing some of those pitchers and really not signing the same caliber hurts the Guardians chances in the AL Central this year. I agree with the overall record projected for the Guardians and agree with the third place finish in the AL Central for the 2025 season.
Minnesota Twins (80-82)
Eh the Minnesota Twins are a pretty consistent ball club every year, kind of middle of the road mostly, with surprising moments and runs throughout the years. The combination of players the Twins lost and gained just does not add up for success in my opinion. Key players not returning include: Kyle Farmer (INF), Carlos Santana (1B), Jovani Moran (LHP), and Max Kepler (OF). Players acquired by the Twins are subpar for what they lost including: Ty France (1B), Danny Coulombe (LHP), and Harrison Bader (OF). Projecting 80 wins for this season seams on the high end for me, I would maybe put the Twins in the 75 win and lower range. Again, the players the Twins gained does not equal or over perform what they ended up losing from the 2024 season therefore putting them fourth in the AL Central this season.
Chicago White Sox (52-110)
Ok, what is there to be said about the Chicago White Sox in 2025? Absolutely nothing… The White Sox were the worst team in baseball last season and will have a repeat run at that in the 2025 season. The talented players and players with any upside the White Sox had are all gone including: Garret Crochet (LHP), Yoan Moncada (3B), and Michael Soroka (RHP). The players the White Sox added are nothing short of boring including: Mike Tauchman (OF), Michael Taylor (OF), Austin Slater (OF), and Matt Thaiss (C). Personally 52 wins seems high for this team, I would put them closer to last year’s numbers of 41 wins MAYBE. I hate to say this (Actually no I don’t) but it is time for Jerry Reinsdorf to sell the Chicago White Sox, and the Chicago Bulls for that matter but that’s for another blog post. The White Sox are a dumpster fire of a team and organization and it is just sad to see. Sell the team Jerry that way fans have some hope for the White Sox, as far as this season goes, I am sorry White Sox fans no hope for you in 2025 and will finish last again!
In conclusion, the AL Central is usually one of the worst divisions in baseball but the tide is changing. Winning the AL Central for the first time since 2014 the Detroit Tigers narrowly winning the division, with the Kansas City Royals coming in a close second (1 game behind the Tigers), third place belongs to the Cleveland Guardians (simply just because), fourth place will go to the Minnesota Twins just based on not enough talent to compete with the ones above them in the division, which means in last place not only in the AL Central but probably all of baseball again… The Chicago White Sox!
