National League East Overview

Looking through all the different 2025 MLB team record projectors that are out there on the internet they all seem the be pretty similar to each other. That being said let’s dive into my thoughts on each National League team’s projected 2025 record.

The National League East division is probably the most exciting divisions in baseball. You have the Philadelphia Phillies who ended up winning the division in the 2024 season. They definitely were the favorites going into the playoffs, however got eliminated 3 games to 1 by the New York Mets. Can the Phillies bounce back once again and claim a Wold series title in 2025? Also, in the NL East you have the Atlanta Braves who had a rough season in 2024 but now with a healthy Ronald Acura Jr do they bounce back and make a run for the NL East championship? The New York Mets who had a Cinderella run during the 2024 playoffs, however came up short against the 2024 World Series Champs Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets won the biggest sweepstakes this offseason and signed Juan Soto (15 years for $765 million) which will add a much needed bat to go along Pete Alonso. Could the Mets be the favorite to now to win the NL East this season? Finally we have the las two teams in the NL East, Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins. What can we say about these two teams? The Nationals have one young talent that should be getting their reps at the MLB level this year including Dylan Crews. Looking for the Nationals to be mediocre at best in the 2025 season as they continue to rebuild.  Lastly, Miami Marlins do not have a lot going on except their all star talent pitcher Sandy Alcantara coming back from Tommy John surgery is 2024. Definitely looking for the Marlins to be making moves this season, especially with second year GM Peter Bendix who is known for making moves around top talented players on the roster.

Philadelphia Phillies (91-71)

Defending 2024 National League East champions are back in 2025 to claim their spot at the top of the division. The Phillies had a somewhat quiet offseason with only losing Jeff Hoffmann (RHP), Austin Hays (OF), and Carlos Estevez (RHP) and adding Jesus Lazardo (LHP), Jordan Romano (RHP), Joe Ross (RHP), and Max Kepler(OF). Max Kepler I believe is a very underrated acquisition for the Phillies, helps their outfield defense out tremendously and gives them another consistent bat in this overwhelming lineup for 2025. The projections have the Phillies winning 91 games, I believe that is right around where I would like their wins to be I could maybe see them getting to the 95 win mark due to their roster being consistent and the additions they added this offseason.

Atlanta Braves (89-73)

The Atlanta Braves ended up coming in second in the NL East in the 2024 season. I was pleasantly surprised they ended up being this good in 2024 due to their injuries including their best player Ronald Acuna Jr, who possibly when healthy is the best player in baseball. The Braves ended up losing quite a bit this offseason from their roster including: Max Fried (LHP), Jorge Soler (OF) Travis d’Arnaud (C), Charlie Morton (RHP), A.J .Minter (LHP), and Gio Urshela (3B). The additions for the Braves for the 2025 season include: Jurickson Profar (OF) and Bryan De La Cruz (OF). The projections have the Braves at 89 wins for the upcoming season, personally I believe this one could be way off just on the fact of what the Braves lost and gained on their roster this offseason. The subtractions just out number the additions in my opinion and I would have to put the Braves wins closer to the 75 mark for this season.

New York Mets (89-73)

Where do we start about the New York Mets? What a run the Mets ended up having in the 2024 playoffs making it all the way to the NLCS where they went up and lost against the eventual 2024 Word Series Champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets acquired one of the most coveted free agents in the offseason in Juan Soto (OF) but also added players including: Pete Alonso (Resigned 1B), Clay Holmes (RHP), Sean Manaea (Resigned LHP), Frankie Montas (RHP), A.J. Minter (LHP), and Jessie Winker (OF). The Mets did end up losing a few players that include: Luis Severino (RHP), Harrison Bader (OF), Adam Otavino (RHP), and Jose Quintana (LHP). I feel the additions the Mets ended up getting in the offseason definitely outweigh the loses heading into the new season. I am”comfortable” with the win projection for 2025 being 89, however I am going to say the Mets overachieve this season and get closer to the 95 win mark maybe even surpassing the 100 wins for the 2025 season and making their case to win the NL East title.

Washington Nationals (73-89)

Here starts the falloff of the NL East division with the Washington Nationals. With that being said, I actually like the moves. The Nationals did this offseason to build their team back to contenders. The additions for the Nationals include: Nathaniel Lowe (1B), Josh Bell (1B), Paul DeJong (INF), Michael Soroka (RHP), and Shinnosuke Ogasawara (LHP). The Nationals did not lost much of anything this offseason, one real subtraction ended up being Robert Garcia (LHP). I like the win total for the Nationals at 73 very middle of the road team with upside if their young talent performs such as Dylan Crews. I may give the Nationals the 75 wins for the year but that is as high as I will go for the 2025 season.

Miami Marlins (63-99)

Let’s take a trip down to South Beach and talk about the Miami Marlins. Personally I do not have much to say about this organization. The players the Marlins added include:  Cal Quantrill (RHP), Eric Wagaman (INF), and Matt Mervin (1B). The players the Marlins ended up losing are bigger names like: Jesus Luzardo (LHP) and Jake Burger (1B/3B). The only bright spot for the Marlins, which I mentioned in the introduction, is that their all star and previous Cy Young winning pitcher Sandy Alcantara s back after undergoing Tommy John last season. My projection is that by the trade deadline that Sandy Alcantara will be traded (hopefully to my Chicago Cubs, just saying) based off how their GM operated with the Tampa Bay Rays all those previous years. I think 63 wins is a stretch for this organization and would put them as low as the 50 wins mark for this season and undergoing a full rebuild.

In conclusion, the NL East is a very top heavy division with the Phillies, Mets, and Braves. Give me the Philadelphia Phillies to win the NL East again this year narrowly beating out my second place team in the New York Mets. Third we will see the Atlanta Braves, this team just lost to many key players and will take a hit in the 2025 season. Finishing fourth we have the Washington Nationals with their young squad getting the MLB reps they will need to start making a case to be on top of the NL east again. Finally finishing last unfortunately the Miami Marlins, I see this being a massive “selling” year for the Marlins to start the franchise over from scratch. This division has some electric players such as: Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Ronald Acuna Jr, Ozzie Albies, Matt Olson, and Sandy Alcantara which will never disappoint in the entertainment factor, definitely should be a good/exciting division to watch in 2025.
