Looking through all the different 2025 MLB team record projectors that are out there on the internet they all seem the be pretty similar to each other. That being said let’s dive into my thoughts on each National League team’s projected 2025 record.
The National League West, the home of the 2024 World Series Champions the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers definitely are the favorites again not only for the NL West but also for the 2025 World Series. Could another team in their own division make some noise and maybe dethrone the Dodgers this season? The San Diego Padres, who finished second in the NL West last year, are back for the 2025 season and ready to contend for the top spot. The Padres have a great chance coming into this year to take down the Dodgers, personally I hope it happens, but can they put it all together for the whole season, time will tell. The Arizona Diamondbacks, who finished third in the NL West last season revamped their roster and are looking to be a dark horse to win the division. They have the super talented young player Corbin Carroll who is looking to have another standout year this upcoming season has the Diamondbacks looking to be contenders this season. The San Francisco Giants are coming into the 2025 season with some new and veteran talent to help try and compete in this tough division. Veteran Justin Verlander signed a one year deal with the Giants hoping that gives them some veteran leadership/presence on the mound. Lastly, the Colorado Rockies, oh what can we say about the Rockies. This organization needs to hit the total reset button. Unfortunately the worst signing involves one of the beloved Cubs players, Kris Bryant, has not been able to stay healthy ever since signing to give them Rockies any hope. Time to face facts, the time to reset and do a total rebuild is now.
Los Angeles Dodgers (102-60)
The World Series Champs are back again for 2025. The Dodgers simply did not lose much of anything, the only players of note include: Walker Buehler (RHP), Jack Flaherty (RHP), and Gavin Lux (2B). However, the Dodgers went absolutely crazy and signed/resigned pretty much everyone in the league including: Teoscar Hernandez (Resigned OF), Clayton Kershaw (Resigned LHP), Blake Treinen (Resigned RHP), Kike Hernandez (Resigned UTIL), Blake Snell (LHP), Roki Sasaki (RHP), and Michael Conforto (OF). Like I said, the Dodgers went massive this free agency and signed everyone you can think of to essentially create an all star team. Do I like how they went about this offseason? Absolutely not, I cannot stand the Dodgers (mainly because my team, the Cubs, refuse to spend money at all to compete) in how they just buy the players. With that being said, the projections have the Dodgers at 102 wins for 2025. I believe with the talent on this team that 102 wins is absolutely obtainable if not more. However, I could also see this team regress and end up coming up short in the NL West.
Arizona Diamondbacks (87-75)
The Arizona Diamondbacks are a interesting team to watch in the 2025 season. The Diamondbacks ended up losing a few important pieces including: Christian Walker (1B), Joe Peterson (DH), Kevin Newman (INF), Josh Bell (1B), Paul Sewald (RHP), and Slade Cecconi (RHP). However, the Dbacks ended up adding some great pieces including one of the top pitchers in the league, these players include: Corbin Burnes (RHP), Josh Naylor (1B), Randal Grichuk (Resigned OF), and Kendall Graveman (RHP). I like what the Diamondbacks did this offseason, grant it they lost a few good pieces but man did they retool with being able to get one of the best pitchers in the league with Corbin Burnes. The projectors show 87 wins for this team, I like that number but on the high end. I see the wins being closer to 85 wins with maybe minimum being 80 wins for this season, ver interesting team to keep an eye on in 2025.
San Diego Padres (87-75)
The beautiful city of San Diego is our next stop for the San Diego Padres. I am going to be honest, I keep up with this team quite a bit mainly has one of my favorite players in the league Manny Machado (Unpopular opinion, but could be my favorite). However, I am a little concerned about this Padres team in 2025. The Padres ended up losing some pretty key players including: Jurickson Profar (OF), Ha-Seong Kim (SS), Tanner Scott (LHP), Kyle Higashioka (C), Martin Perez (LHP), and Donovan Solano. The additions the Padres ended up getting this offseason include: Nick Pivetta (RHP), Connor Joe (1B), Elias Diaz (Resigned C), Kyle Hart (LHP), Yuli Gurriel (1B), and Jason Hayward (OF). Like I said, I am CONCERNED for the Padres this season, I am not sure the additions totally make up for the players they lost in the offseason. That being said, the projectors have the Padres at 87 wins, my initial thought seems too high due to what I mentioned previously with the roster changes. However, I am all in on Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis both having career (possibly MVP) caliber seasons which will propel the Padres passed the projected wins and getting them closer to 95 wins this season to contend for the NL West title.
San Francisco Giants (81-81)
Let’s take it to the Bay for our next team, the San Francisco Giants. I will be honest I do not keep up with this team at all. Ever since they stopped being dominant it seems like the Giants just fell off completely. I like their addition of Buster Posey in the front office that speaks volumes of what kind of organization they have out there in The Bay. However, lets take a look at what they did this offseason, the players the Giants ended up losing include: Blake Snell (LHP), Taylor Rogers (LHP), Mark Canha (OF), and Michael Conforto (OF). The Giants did end up signing some big names that were in the free agency pool including: Justin Verlander (RHP) and Willy Adames (SS). The addition of Willy Adames is a great signing, locking up a young premier shortstop in the game is always a good way to start, then go and add a veteran pitcher in Justin Verlander, not bad Giants not bad at all. With that being said, the projectors have the Giants wins at 81 games, I feel this is too high especially considering the division they are going up against. I would be comfortable with putting the wins at 75 (on the high end) with more reasonable number being around 70 wins for this season. The Giants are definitely on their way back to competing but need to develope some new pieces and make a few more free agent/trading splashes to be able to compete in the NL West.
Colorado Rockies (61-101)
The Colorado Rockies a beautiful mountain scenery with a bad baseball team/organization. The Rockies just simply seem doomed when it comes to free agent signings (Kris Bryant unfortunately). Like I said in the introduction this team needs to hit the reset button right now! The Rockies made little movements this offseason. The players the Rockies lost include: Cal Quantrill (RHP), and Brendan Rodgers (2B) and the players they gained this offseason include: Jacob Stallings (C), Scott Alexander (LHP), Kyle Farmer (INF), and Thairo Estrada (INF). All I have to say is hopefully the Rockies get a healthy Kris Bryant this season and attempt to play baseball. The projectors have the Rockies getting 61 wins this season, I feel this is crazy high for this team. I would like to see the win totals at 50 with a high end being 55 for the 2025 season.
In conclusion, unfortunately I do think the Dodgers win the NL West division again purely based on all the players they have, just too much talent. My second place team is going to be the San Diego Padres, I believe they will make the NL West race close with the Dodgers but coming up just short for a second place finish. Third place team belongs to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Corbin Burnes is a huge asset the Dbacks gained this offseason and have them on the right track to contend for the top spot, just not this season. The San Francisco Giants will be coming in fourth place this year, simply they do not have the talent on the roster yet to compete with the upper echelon teams in the NL West. Lastly we have the Colorado Rockies, I have zero hope for the Rockies this season (and for many season to come potentially) and they will be finishing last this season with the second worse record in baseball (behind the White Sox of course).
