Yes, you read that correctly we have another golf major happening this weekend. However before getting right into that I want to take some time and recognize all these questions Dads out there reading this article, Happy Father’s Day! Personally this is my second Father’s Day of being a dad to my (our) beautiful girl, who will be two this fall. Hands down has to be one of the greatest accomplishments in my personal life (other than marrying my smoke-show of a wife of course).

That being said I am raising my glass to all the Dads out there it’s our day you legends time to get out there, get the grill fired up, put on some steaks, and sit back with a ice cold alcoholic beverage and enjoy “our” day. Also, almost forgot with watching some golf this weekend too, duh. The U.S Open will be taking place at Oakmont Country club located in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. The opening round starts this Thursday (June 12th) with the final round concluding on Sunday (June 15th) where we find out who takes home the coveted U.S. Open trophy and wins one of golf’s four major tournaments. Currently on major three of four tournaments for the 2025 golf season, the U.S. Open is shaping up to be a challenging yet entertaining few rounds of golf. Let’s break down the four major tournaments golf schedule including the winners so far.. Starting it off was The Masters in April where we saw Rory McIlroy finally get his green jacket and completing the career grand slam. Next up we took some swings in Charlotte, North Carolina at the PGA Championship where Scottie Scheffler returned to his normal self with a dominating performance to win. Now that we are caught up, it is time for the U.S. Open. Who is going to win? Will it be a dominating performance or a close tournament? Who/Will there be a surprise golfer that takes the trophy? I will be answering and discussing all these questions and giving some predictions on how I think the 2025 U.S. Open will be played out!
Let’s tee things off with who are the favorites for this year’s U.S. Open. (See what I did there with the “tee”, I know clever right…) According to the betting pages as of today (Tuesday, June 10th) we have a clear cut favorite that I will give you all three guesses on who that is and the first two guesses do not count.. Yes, you are right Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite (+280) to hold up the trophy. I mean Scheffler is the number one golfer in the world so that makes sense why he is the favorite.

Next on the list, even though it’s not very close, is Bryson DeChambeau (+700) who won this tournament last year in Pinehurst on the last hole. DeChambeau, definitely a crowd favorite despite being on the LIV tour, knows what it takes to win this specific tournament which is why I agree with him being the second favorite to win this year.

Rounding out the top five favorites for this year, we have Rory McIlroy (+1100) as third favorite, Jon Rahm (+1200) as fourth favorite, leaving Xander Schauffele (+2200) as the fifth favorite in this year’s U.S. Open. McIlroy ever since winning The Master’s has no doubt been struggling which I kind of expected. There has been a lot of pressure and talk when/if Rory was going to win another major let alone The Master’s, so when he won in a playoff to finally get the illusive green jacket and complete the grand slam I think he simply said “fuck it”. Although, I did have expect him to maybe go on an absolute tear and maybe get back to being the number one player in the world, but as we all see I think he took my first option. Jon Rahm has kind of been on a downward slide ever since the start of the 2025 season. I am not sure what happened with Rahm a couple years ago he was untouchable and now it seems he is having trouble swinging the club? Personally, I think a lot of his problems are how his peers view him being part of the LIV tour. In the beginning reports were none of the PGA guys would even speak to the players that left and joined LIV, I think now that has changed for the better and it’s not as a big deal. However, I am not sure Rahm has forgotten about that and I think that is playing with his mental game recently, but what a way to get over that with winning the U.S. Open am I right? Alright, we have made it to the last of the top five favorites in Xander Schauffele. Honestly, I have not been keeping up with Schauffele that much this year simply because I have not been hearing his name, like at all? Am I the only one here, Schauffele won both the PGA and Open championships last year and was on an absolute heater to end the 2024 season. Enter this year and it all seems to have come to a complete stop. Xander has had only one top ten finish so far this year (eight at The Master’s) other than that he really has not placed higher than twelfth. Saying the struggles are real is a definite understatement in Xander’s case but how does the saying go… Pressure creates diamonds? I am not saying he is my pick but maybe this will be a diamond in the rough situation and Xander wins this year catapulting him to finish the 2025 season strong? (Man I am getting good at this, see what I did yet again “rough”. I crack myself up).

Okay, let’s start wrapping this article up, I have a grill that needs to be fired up. I have decided not only am I going to give you guys who I think is going to win but also if there is a dark horse in the field, and who I would like to see win this year. Personally, Scottie Scheffler is going to end up winning this year. He is on an absolute mission now after winning the PGA Championship and I do not think he plans on slowing down, barring any crazy arrests in the near future. (Sorry I just had to throw that in there) He has definitely gotten back into his number one golfer in the world form and I do not believe anyone can stop him from winning the U. S. Open. Now give me Jordan Spieth to be my dark horse to win this year. I know crazy right? Hear me out though, Spieth has not won a major since the 2017 Open Championship, and actually has not won a tournament since 2022 (did I just read that right, man I may be reaching on this pick. Oh well I am committed). I am chalking this one up to one of the most simplest reasons of him being my dark horse to win the U.S. Open, Jordan Spieth is due for a win and what better time than this Sunday on Father’s Day? I know, I know I got to get this grilled fired up, last but not least let me give you who I want to see win. Personally, I would like to see one of the LIV golfers win the U.S. Open whether it be Bryson DeChambeau (again), Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, Jon Rahm, or hell even good ole left Phil Mickelson (doubtful but here is to hoping). I think it is good for the all around game of golf to have one of these guys win a major. It is time to get over the fact they left the PGA. These guys are still some of the top golfers in the game no matter if it’s the LIV or PGA. That being said if I had to pick one of these guys to win, give me Bryson DeChambeau he is a fan favorite and coming back as defending U.S. Open champion. Alright, I am out of here the grill is started, steaks are ready to be put on, and an ice cold beer is in my hand Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there that may be reading this now go enjoy some good food, time spent with family, and watching the world’s best golfers trying to win the 2025 U.S. Open, cheers guys.
